Choosing appropriate distribution for the inefficiency term in translog production function

I have a cross sectional data and prefer Translog function to the Cobb Douglas Production function.

I would be grateful if I could be assisted on the appropriate distribution for the inefficiency term (exponent vrs truncated normal)?
Secondly, how do I examine the results to know if the translog was really the appropriate function and not the Cobb Douglas?
