  • Cole's LMS

Hi! I am trying to use the Cole´s LMS for STATA. According the creators of the program, I have to set the appropriate degrees of freedom for my data. Does exists any guidance for this?
    Best,

    What is "Cole's LMS"?
Please follow the FAQ advice to provide FULL references. There's a good reason: we're from a huge range of backgrounds.
(I am aware that, according to internet netiquette, use of upper case corresponds to shouting. However the "distance" from FAQ to member appears to be rather long and hence shouting appears necessary. Many posters do not heed the advice recommended in our Forum FAQ, even though the chances of receiving helpful responses to posts is increased by following FAQ protocol.)

I've never heard of it before, but there is a Stata routine for it: http://www.stata.com/statalist/archi.../msg01223.html

Thank you Stephen and Richard for your reply. Effectively, it is the colelms module to calculate Cole´s LMS values for growth data. I found the program in this website: http://ideas.repec.org/c/boc/bocode/s360702.html
I have downloaded the .ado program and taken a look to STB42, which shows how to run Generalized Additive Models, through the gam command. However I cannot understand what is the best degree of freedom for my data (growth in height and weight of children from 0 to 5 years old).

Thanks for the more informative responsive. Tip: it's strongly recommend not to directly download files from the SSC webpages. Instead, download from your Stata prompt so that all the required files are downloaded, and that they are put in the right places. (Use findit or search to look for programs; then click on the relevant links to access programs -- which may be on SSC, the Stata Journal website or elsewhere. (This mode also allows you to get the latest version.) Sorry, I can't help you with your substantive questions. The colelms help file does not provide citations to literature. (And I don't know if the authors still belong to Statalist.) And for similar reasons, it's unclear why the gam command is relevant in respect to your question about Cole's LMS
