  • Copy and paste problems in the do file editor (problem and the Stata tech support solution (in my case))

    Dear Statalist

Increasingly in the last year I had been having problems with copy and paste not working in the do file editor (Windows 7, Stata 13.1). In the last few weeks the problem was occurring much more frequently. When it did, copy and paste continued to work in other applications, but would not work in the do file editor (either using keyboard shortcuts or the Edit menu). I found the following previous thread on Statalist: http://www.stata.com/statalist/archi.../msg00813.html, but this did not help in my case.

I gave up and emailed Technical Support, and was provided with a possible cause, which turned out to be the cause in my case. I have posted the solution (in my case) here in case others experience the problem and have the same problem source. The problem was my Webroot antivirus software, which had apparently 'blocked' Stata in some way (https://community.webroot.com/t5/Web...ing/td-p/23732). Following the instructions here, I went into (in Webroot) Identity Protection, then the Application Protection tab, found Stata in the list of applications, and clicked Allow. Copy and paste now works fine in Stata's do file editor.

    Best wishes
    Jonathan
