  • MVNP Plugin

I am trying to use the MVNP plugin written by Lorenzo Cappellari, and Stephen P. Jenkins

The IT department at my university have replaced my 32-bit windows 7 machine with a 64-bit windows 7 machine necessitating the reinstallation of all my programs etc..

On the 32-bit machine the test programs supplied with MVNP, discussed in the Stata Journal article "Calculation of multivariate normal probabilities by simulation, with applications to maximum simulated likelihood estimation" SJ (2006) 6, Number 2, pp. 156–189, all worked perfectly well

After re-installing Stata as a 64-bit application and using findit MVNP to get the package again I get the error message

"plugin not loaded or not available: use the adoonly option"

In the article they advise using the adoonly option when the plugin is not available for a particular platform

I do not know if there was (or I made) an error downloading the plugin or whether the plugin is not available for windows 7 64-bit

I am not all that familiar with stata plugins but I expected a file mvnp.plugin to appear somewhere on my computer?

    Thanks for suggestions or help

Thanks for your interest. My recollection was that there is or was a windows 64 bit version of the plugin made available, but I am away from office and unable to check. In the meantime, I suggest that you uninstall the program and all it's components and then reinstall. (NB it was not me who compiled the 64 bit version.) Post an update. If no success, also send me an email privately off-list, and I will try and investigate further when I can.

      Dear Professor Jenkins,

Thanks for your response. I have uninstalled and reinstalled mvnp using findit - unfortunately this made no difference. However it does seem to work when I select the adoonly option.

      Best wishes

        Dear Mr. Martin Wall,
May I know the command you used for the adoonly option? I am also experiencing the same problem. I also tried uninstalling and reintalling mvnp plugin but same problem persists. I searched for the adoonly option but cannot figure it on my own.

        Kind regards,
        Nica
