  • Happy Pi Day...

    to all Statalisters.

Just a reminder that 3/14 (the US date notation, which puts month before day, resulting in a 2-place version of pi on this date) is beyond numerology, the birthday of Albert Einstein, and also the anniversary of the death of Stephen Hawking.

I think those are two people worth remembering annually, even if, like some, you think that tau (= 2*pi) is a more important number.

6/28 is tau day if 3/14 is pi day. Neither is so memorable if you use a day/month convention.

Anyone new to and intrigued by the idea of tau should certainly look at https://www.tauday.com/tau-manifesto and will find much, much more by Googling, ranging from utterly frivolous to completely serious.

Over the years I've argued for July 22 (22/7) to replace March 14 as π Day since 22/7 is actually closer to π than is 3.14.
      Code:
      . di _pi
      3.1415927

      . di abs(_pi-3.14)
      .00159265

      . di abs(_pi-22/7)
      .00126449
This has not proven to be a popular suggestion.
