stata doesn't plot histograms on Mac?

Hi everyone, I tried to plot a histogram on my MacBook Air and it gives me syntax error but really it is not, as you can see on my screenshot. I also tried with other datasets and it's the same thing. I don't know how to solve this problem.

If I read your left-hand image correctly,

hist stars, normal 

starts work but then bails out.

Can you post a data example that lets us experiment?

Your right-hand image shows part of a longer command that you've annotated as not working, but I am wondering what is the r(p) that you are feeding to fcolor()?

I’m getting the same r(198) error even when using a Stata example dataset. I tried return list to check for r(p) and fcolor(), but nothing appears. After analyzing the trace, it seems the issue is caused by the histogram.ado file in my Stata installation.

That works fine for me in Stata 19.5 (for Windows). I have to suspect a corrupted installation.

I encounter no problems running the sysuse auto example on my Mac.

Nick Cox 's conjecture in #4 would seem the place to start for troubleshooting.

I have the exact same issue, using Stata SE 18.5 on Mac. I cannot get histogram to work on any dataset, although it was working fine a few weeks ago and I have not (knowingly) changed anything about my installation.

My report in #4 was based on running Stata SE 17.0 on a MacBook running Sierra 10.12.6.

I also encountered no problems running StataNow/SE 18.5 on a different MacBook running Sonoma 14.6.1.

Update: It seems to be a StataNow (18.5) issue. I uninstalled Stata and reinstalled Stata SE 18.0, which eliminated the problem. Updating again to 18.5 brought it back. All of this is under Tahoe 26.0.1.

I had no problem - StataNow 19.5 and a MacBook Pro running Sequoia 15.6.1 on an Apple M3 Max

This is most likely due to an unfinished update which left the Stata installation in a bad state. Please download and run Stata installation qualification tool at https://www.stata.com/support/instal...lification/18/
If the qualification tool reports error, run

update all, force

to force an update. After update, run qualification tool again to verify everything is installed correctly. If the problem persits, please contact tech support at [email protected]
