  • Where to save stata-userkeywords.txt

    Hello,

I cannot get commands distinct and table1 to be syntax highlighted as a user-defined keyword.
They are listed in a file saved as stata-userkeywords.txt (separated by a new line).

    Code:
    . sysdir
       STATA: C:\Program Files\Stata18\
       BASE: C:\Program Files\Stata18\ado\base\
       SITE: C:\Program Files\Stata18\ado\site\
       PLUS: C:\Users\lankr002\ado\plus\
       PERSONAL: C:\Users\lankr002\ado\personal\
       OLDPLACE: c:\ado\

    . about

    StataNow/SE 18.5 for Windows (64-bit x86-64)

The only thing I can think of is that I'm saving it in the wrong place. As my computer is an institutional managed system I cannot save to C:\Program Files\Stata18\ or any folder within.

I have tried saving stata-userkeywords.txt in:
    C:\Users\lankr002\ado
    C:\Users\lankr002\ado\personal

    C:\Users\lankr002\Documents

The document is still saved in all those places, nothing changes after closing Stata, restart computer etc. The instructions from GSM are not super clear (to me anyway).

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Kind regards,

    Krystal

According to the user's manual, the file "must be saved to your home directory." In your case, that means
    Code:
    C:\Users\lankr002\
and not any of its subdirectories.

So, just move the file up from a subdirectory, say, C:\Users\lankr002\ado\ to C:\Users\lankr002\ and it should work.
