Stata hunging

Why do stata always hung and quit so much?When you are pulling data from a database and network goes off its expected that when the network is back STATA should continue running and complete the task.Instead it hungs forcing you to force quit and its painful especially if you havent saved the do file yet.I hope something will be done in later versions about this.Also the issue of STATA just quited unexpectedly.Am using stata BE 17.

Stata hanging could reflect on

your individual computer

what other applications you are running at the same time

local network issues

internet access

size of dataset

what you are asking Stata to do.

I doubt that that is a complete list.

At least with Windows, if you're using ODBC to retrieve data from an ODBC data source and if execution of the process is interrupted abruptly by some external phenomenon so that the process isn't allowed to complete or fail gracefully, then it will hang. You have to exit Stata in order to release its interrupt on the ODBC driver.

. . . and its painful especially if you havent saved the do file yet.

Why wouldn't you have saved your do-file by the time you're ready to start pulling data from a database server?
