Unable to set scheme stcolor / update all

I am sure these two problems are related. I'm trying to set my color scheme back to default, which I gather should be done by set scheme stcolor. When I run that command, I get the error scheme stcolor not found. I saw online that I should try update all, but when I run that (even after restarting Stata) I get the error cannot write in directory /Applications/Stata/.tmp. I have not changed anything about my Stata version / laptop recently.

Any advice?

Scheme stcolor is only available in Stata 18 (upwards, if you read this post at some point in the future from now).

Hard for me to say what is going on otherwise.
