Pooling data across studies and weighting by sample size or inverse variance

I have a dataset which includes data on individuals from 10 clinical trials.

I want to perform some basic descriptive statistics (eg, mean and median age, proportion female, etc).

How can I do this, i) weighting by trial sample size and ii) weighting by inverse variance?
