  • Port to GTK3 / GTK4 and Wayland support on Linux/Unix

The Linux/Unix version of Stata (the main UI and the do file editor) still relies on the graphical toolkit GTK2. While it still works fine, Stata does not support Wayland and the UI looks (increasingly) outdated on current Linux/Unix systems. GTK4 is the current version of the toolkit, which supports Wayland out of the box.
What are the plans for the UI on Linux/Unix in upcoming Stata versions?

I noticed that there are actually some problems that probably stem from the fact that Stata currently does not support Wayland directly and still is GTK2-based. Sometimes, the Stata window is not resizable anymore. This is particularly the case, when having switched between external display <> internal display. I hope that Stata 19 will make the switch to GTK4 or at least GTK3.
