  • For Duplicates - Generate Mean Values

    To xtset, I want to remove duplicates. I have duplicates with the same GVKEY and datadate but with different tickers. I want to merge those duplicates with the same tickers together and for the variables, I want to have a mean value for those duplicates only. To do so, how can I complete or revise the following codes. Please help me with this. Thank you.

        Note: In the future, please be sure your example data includes all of the variables necessary to implement the solution to your problem. Your data example in this thread lacks the prccd variable. The example also contains no instances of duplicate observations for any combination of GVKEY and datadate. To be truly helpful, the example data needs to exhibit the problem that needs to be solved and contain all relevant variables.

          These are my total codes based on daily CRSP data. My purpose is to calculate ILLIQUIDITY and TOTAL_VOLATILITY based on daily data and collapse them into means to convert quarterly and merge them with quarterly dataset using GVKEY and datadate. Please can you please correct my codes.

              I'm sorry, but I cannot critique this code for several reasons. First, it contains several variables that are not in your example data and whose meaning I do not understand. You also calculate new variables amihud and illiquidity. As for amihud, I have no idea what that is. As for illiquidity, I have a general understanding of the term, but I do not know how it is supposed to be related to the variables you are dealing with. I don't understand what the manipulations you are doing with the fiscaldate variable are trying to accomplish. I don't work in finance.

              So you would need to post a data example that includes all of the variables (except the ones calculated de novo in the code) mentioned, along with an explanation of what each one is (as the meanings of several of the variable names are obscure, at least to me). And it would be best if it were reviewed by somebody who is familiar with the formal definitions of illiquidity and amihud in finance.
