I believe when it is running it is trying to make changes to the registry (in Windows) to the HKLM branch, which requires admin rights which I don't have on the specific machine.
Is there any way to tell Stata to perform the same procedure on the HKCU branch of the registry, which should succeed for the current access level that I have? Perhaps this can be done from the command line somehow?

    Dear All,

I'd like to bump this issue in an attempt to get some recommendations as there were no responses so far.

    1. I have since found the earlier question by Patrick Schwarz , who resorted to registry manipulation (presumably by manual changes).
    2. This approach and the fact that I don't recollect Stata requiring admin privileges for this action in earlier versions tells me that perhaps it is not the permissions to write to a particular branch of the registry, but permissions to run admintools (StataAdministrativeTools-64.exe), which seems to me entirely unnecessary for this task.

    Thank you, Sergiy Radyakin
