  • Inquiry Regarding Storing Installed Stata Packages for Easy Reinstallation

    Dear All,

I've installed numerous user-written Stata commands, and I'm exploring the feasibility of storing the package names. This way, when I reinstall or update Stata software, I aim to simplify the process of reinstalling these packages without the need for manual, individual installations.

Your assistance regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

    Best regards,
    Santosh Dash.

The appropriate place to store community-contributed is whatever adopath knows as PLUS. If you're updating or upgrading Stata on the same machine, nothing needs to be done. If you're working on a new machine, just copy the whole lot preserving directory or folder structure.

A problem is that a package name doesn't have to relate to any of the commands in it. Indeed occasionally a package might be just a help file. There are many packages with two or more commands and some packages whose name doesn't match any of the files included.

There is also adoupdate, which I have never directly used.
