When to Use Tobit

Hi Everyone,
I have a statistics question more than a STATA question. My dependent variable is admissions into various universities. It has been truncated so that numbers 1-9 have been coded as * to protect privacy. I re-coded the asterisks to be 0 but there are also real zeros in the data. Can I use a Tobit model with a lower limit of 0.

Have you considered using -intreg-? This seems more appropriate for this kind of interval-censored data.
