  • How to calculate effect size for categorical independent variable

    Hello,

I am trying to calculate effect size with the regression post-estimation command estat esize but it seems to treat categorical variables as continuous. How can I estimate the effect size for a categorical independent variable with more than 2 categories?

    Thanks,
    Sean

Perhaps I'm mistaken and it's the correct effect size. I just noticed my continuous variables have a DF=1 and my categorical ones have a DF for the # of categories -1. Can anyone confirm? Thank you

I think you've nailed it but showing commands and output might have gotten you a quicker answer. For example, you also could have had a problem if the regress command did not use factor variable notation.
