Renaming multiple variables in one unique format?

Hi,

I have over 10k date variables in the format _01_01_2016 through _30_12_2020. I want to rename all these variables in the format: daily_01012016, daily_01022016........daily_12302020. Could anyone help me do this?

Thanks, Rich. I received an error message upon using the code: rename whatever pre=daily: I can't figure out what I am missing here.

Rich Goldstein and Clyde Schechter answered the question directly, but it's hard to imagine much fruitful analysis before you reshape long.
