Hi everyone, I have recently used shp2dta on a UK regions shapefile and want to map cross sectional data onto the shapefile data by merging the two datasets on one variable which worked fine, however I encountered a problem when trying to spset the merged dataset as it returns this:

I am not sure why it wants me to xtset, and also I have tried spsetting it on my unique identifier but that unique identifier is for an individual and not necessarily their geographical location which I had hoped to create by merging my cross sectional dataset with the shapefile dataset containing coordinates for the region they live in. Is there any way I could remedy this? A potential issue would be that my spatial ID does not uniquely identify observations. Overall, I am quite stumped at the moment and would appreciate any form of guidance on this. Thank you so much!
