  • build a table with time intervals

I have homework in macroeconomics class where I have to make a do file and log file out of the data that was given to us. Now the last step was for me to make a table but it has to have year intervals. I am very new to stata and I only watch youtube videos and search on the internet and our professor isnt so good at explaining either. This is what he wants - Build a table in which you present the average value of the index TS_209 for each of the values of gdp_constant_group and for each period of five years: 1995-1999; 2000-2004; 2005-2009; 2010-2014; 2015-2019.

How do I code that if in the data that was given to us, there are no time intervals and I wasn't asked to generate a new variable for the year intervals?

Thank you in advance if anyone could help me.

It sounds to me as if you have an idea of how to do the tabulation if you had a variable for the time intervals.

Maybe that is the point of the assignment - it's the sort of problem you have to solve in the real world (as opposed to in school), without a professor nearby to tell you all the steps you need to take. So congratulations, I think you're on the right path.
