  • "doedit" command opens do file in *new window*

I do not want this. In my main .do file, I use the command
    HTML Code:
    doedit "myFile.do"
to automatically open this file in a separate do-file tab. While this works on my laptop (i.e. file opens in a new tab), the same is not true for the desktop. For some reason,
    HTML Code:
    doedit
opens the file in a new *window*.

Does anyone know the solution to this?

Preferences > Windows > Do-file Editor > Windowing > Open documents in tabs instead of windows

This is unclear to me. If the path is Menu bar>Edit>Preferences, the given path is not present. In the Do-file editor, it is the same.

this may be OS dependent, I use a MAC and here is what I do: open Stata, click on "Stata/MP 17.0" in the upper left, click on preferences, click on "general preferences", click on "Windows", click on "do-file editor", click on "Windowing" and this offers a check box to open in tabs instead of windows

This box is ticked. Probably the issue lies in the settings elsewhere. I remember that it once used to work, I believe.
Any ideas on where to manually change this inside the installation files on windows, highly appreciated.
The path used was, under main Stata Program: Edit>Preferences>General Preferences>Viewer>Open Documents in Tabs instead of Windows.
No change occurs for this problem.
