  • Return code r(9211) following merge

Hoping someone can help me with the following. I try to run the code:

    merge m:1 file using IndustryCodesCrosswalk

which fails without indicating an error, but with the return code r(9211). Clicking on the return code results in a popup with message "No entries found for search on "r(9211), local".

I have tried searching the forum and other locations but this return code doesn't seem to show up anywhere. Hoping against hope someone may have encountered this before.

Congratulations, you have encountered an error message so unexpected by the developers that no text was provided for it.

    The Stata documentation tells us

You should never see such a message. If one occurs, save your data, and exit Stata immediately. Please email [email protected] to report the problem.
So follow the invitation. You might review Stata's Technical Services pages at https://www.stata.com/support/tech-support/ to ensure that you make the best possible presentation of your problem.

For those who are interested, these are the breadcrumbs I followed to find the advice quoted above. I wouldn't have expected a casual user to find it on their own.

    If you run
    Code:
    help error
    and then click on
    Code:
    (View complete PDF manual entry)
at the top of the output, the Stata Programming Reference Manual PDF included in your Stata installation will open to the documentation for the programmer's error command. Scroll down to the list of groups of return codes and their meanings where you will see

    9000–9999 system-failure errors
Click on the 9000-9999 and it will take you further down in the manual to

9xxx. Various messages, all indicating an unexpected system failure. You should never see such a message. If one occurs, save your data, and exit Stata immediately. Please email [email protected] to report the problem.
