  • Unable to find detailed parameters for variables

    Hello everyone,
I am using Stata /SE 17.0 working with the Pollock 2012 data set states.dta. I am having difficulty in finding the parameters for the variables Relig_low (percentage low religiosity) and Relig_high (percentage high religiosity) and Religiosity3 (religiosity). I am not able to find what the possible response range was for these variables, meaning what range of possible answers to the census question were allowed by respondents? Does anyone know how to find this information and how to find what the threshold measurements for each variable in this category of religiosity were?
Thank you for any help you can offer,
    Ian B

You lost me at "Pollock 2012 data set". What is this please?

If this is somehow about an assignment for a class, please note #4 at https://www.statalist.org/forums/help#adviceextras

      Hello Nick,
Yes this is a data set that was given to me by my professor to do a independent research project. I read the content of the link you sent. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

I will say that if your professor gave you the data they should have accompanied it with the documentation for the dataset or with a copy of whatever Pollock 2012 may be in order for you to be able to actually understand your data. Perhaps Pollock 2012 gives some indication of a primary source from which the data was extracted—that is, perhaps it's a subset of data from a larger survey, so the question you have would be answered within the documentation for the survey.

And with that said, you can certainly use the codebook command to discover what the range of the variable is in your data. I still consider that a poor second best to actual documentation for your dataset.
