  • If Statement for longitudal

Hello everyone! I am pretty new to STATA and I was wondering whether someone could help me with some problems that I encountered. Is there a way to create if statements using a "relationship" between two variables? I have some longitudinal data that observes the employment status of certain individuals. I want to create a variable "became unemployed" which would be created by looking at this individual employment status at time t and comparing it with this particular individual employment status at time t-1. Is there a way to do it? The time variable is one column where arguments are time periods. Thanks so much for your help!
