I am interested in investigating the duration of exposure to uncontrolled hypertension (defined as blood pressure >=150 mmHg in hypertensive patients) on cognition. I have repeated assessment of blood pressure over a long period of follow up and cognition is assessed at the end of the study.
My idea was to do group based trajectory modeling to identify 3 groups of individuals (those with a long exposure to uncontrolled hypertension, those with almost never uncontrolled hypertension, and those in between) and then to investigate this effect on cognition.
My problem is that patients develop hypertension over the follow up. So I will not be able to include all the blood pressure measurements at each time point. I only want to consider BP measurements among patients with an established diagnosis of hypertension.
I am not sure I can do GBTM in this case. If it was just BP measurements for all individuals (with or without hypertension), that would be appropriate but in my case I am not sure.
