Need a help regarding Panel Data

Dear all,
I am a Phd scholar , new to this stata and research, and am currently facing a problem in my Panel data analysis. My panel analysis is something movie genre bundle for each year (eg, movie1{ comedy, horror} ,movie2{comedy ,action} ) this way I have collected data for 20 years, analyzing genre collection(genre bundle) for each year (approx..3000 movies per year). Is that a valid panel data? if so , I have more frequency for same bundle in one single year. How i could do the analysis as the time is same, but so many frequency for the same entities. Please need some suggestion.

The structure of your data is not very clear to me. Showing example data would be very helpful. (Use the -dataex- command to do this. If you are running version 17, 16 or a fully updated version 15.1 or 14.2, -dataex- is already part of your official Stata installation. If not, run -ssc install dataex- to get it. Either way, run -help dataex- to read the simple instructions for using it. -dataex- will save you time; it is easier and quicker than typing out tables. It includes complete information about aspects of the data that are often critical to answering your question but cannot be seen from tabular displays or screenshots. It also makes it possible for those who want to help you to create a faithful representation of your example to try out their code, which in turn makes it more likely that their answer will actually work in your data.)

That said, it sounds like your data is basically a long series of films that were produced (released?) over a 20 year period, with each film classified as belonging in one or more genres. Presumably you have other information about these films in your data set as well. If I have this correct, it is not panel data, at least not at the film level. That is because, if I have it right, the same film will appear only once, not repeatedly associated with different years. If I understand it correctly, it would be better understood as serial cross section data, providing a "snapshot" of film output in each of 20 years.

As for methods of analysis, that would depend on what your research question is. You have not provided any information about that, so nothing more can be said.

Hi Clyde, Thanks for your valuable comments, I am doing my analysis not by film level, instead genre bundle level.For instance a movie with the following genre bundle in year t could be repeated for different movies in the same year t and also in the subsequent years t+1, here my entity is genre_bundle

as you told me ,if i do it by film level ,then it won't be repeated each year and it is a cross-sectional data, my doubt is , if do my analysis based on genre_level( it is repeated each and some time not so ,a kind of unbalanced panel. If i do my analysis based on genre level is it a panel analysis?

Yes my Panel id is Genre_bundle and sometimes it doesn't appear all the year and it is often repeated in the same year.
