I have a query about the old stb.sty, which people of a certain age might remember from the 20th century as the plain TeX style used for the old Stata Technical Bulletin (STB) up until 2001, when STB was replaced wit The Stata Journal which uses SJ LaTeX instead of plain TeX. Should stb.sty still work under today's MiKTeX?
ask because I have used stb.sty to make .pdf manuals for my Stata packages somersd, bspline, and powercal. I last used stb.sty for this purpose in April 2020, when it still worked under the then-current version of MiKTeX. However, when I tried to update the manual bspline.pdf for the bspline package earlier today, I found that TeX complains about being unable to load fonts, and that dvipdfm then produces a .pdf file that is damaged and cannot be repaired. Does this mean that stb.sty used fonts no longer available to today's MiKTeX? Or is there something I have overlooked?
Best wishes
Roger
