  • Stuart-Maxwell test - sample size estimation

    Hello,

I wonder if it is possible ("anyhow") to perform a sample size estimation concerning the Stuart-Maxwell (marginal homogeneity) test, preferrably in Stata.

    Lots of thanks in advance.

    Best regards,

    Marcos

I'm not aware of any software (or user supplied macro) that performs a (true) Stuart-Maxwell test. I say true, because one of the well-known sample size calculation books (Chow, Shao, Wang and Lokhnygina. Sample Size Calculations in Clinical Research. 2008, CRC Press), incorrectly labels the McNemar-Bowker test (a test of table symmetry) as the Stuart-Maxwell test. To my knowledge there aren't any closed-form solutions to a sample size calculation, so the solution must either be iterated or else simulated.

Leonardo Guizzetti Thank you for the reply.

Shall you or a fellow member of this Forum know some way to proceed (I mean, simulation or any other strategy), please let me know.
      Best regards,

      Marcos

Sorry, Marcos. I do not have any code for this.
