.sav to .dta on MP 17

Hi,

I am trying to efficiently convert sav to dta, and I have been trying to do so in R, but some of the variable names and labels are messed with.
Is there a way to do this on Stata/MP 17.0 for Mac (Intel 64-bit)?

Are you familiar with Stata's import spss command which claims to read SPSS sav files? I'm not a user of SPSS datasets so I can't comment on whether it will meet your needs, but since you didn't mention trying it I thought I'd mention it.

Ok, so I am aware that this is a common issue. And I know Sergiy Radyakin wrote USESPSS for Windows. Has anyone made inroads making it work for Macs? Please let me know, or send me the code so I can start where you left off.
