  • Summary statistics with categorical variables

Hi, i was trying to compute the summary statistics for a set of categorical variables and used asdoc to export it to use .

    asdoc su i.qd1 qd7 i.edu i.qd10 i.area5 i.pop_com

As im working with categorical variables i was looking for the mean/perchentage only so i added the specification but then i am getting an error that says "factor-variable and time-series operators not allowed"

    asdoc su i.qd1 qd7 i.edu i.qd10 i.area5 i.pop_com, stat(mean)

    Thanks in advance

Please see FAQ Advice #12. asdoc is community-contributed from SSC, so it is requested that you explain that. It's also a good idea to mention asdoc in your thread title and to ping Attaullah Shah, the author.

For example, your thread title is interesting to me, but on reading the question I see that it may need to be answered by someone who knows this command.

In asdoc, factor variables are allowed only when you use the sum command without the option stat(). I shall add support for this in asdocx

Check out my asdoc program, which sends outputs to MS Word.
For more flexibility, consider using asdocx which can send Stata outputs to MS Word, Excel, LaTeX, or HTML.
