  • Converting raster format data (5 arc-minute grid cells) to country-level panel data that can be read in STATA

    Hi all!

I am working on a project where I am looking at the impact of climate/weather variables (temp, rainfall,...) on agricultural outcomes (yields, outputs,...).

Much research in agriculture uses data from the GAEZ database provided by the FAO. This data is in raster format and I have never worked with spatial data before of this sort before.

END GOAL: I would like to be able to retrieve data from the GAEZv4 data portal and end up with panel data for a selection of countries that I could in STATA for my analysis. I understand I would have to "map" theh country bounderies in order to generate "averages" using the multiple geo points within these boundaries to obtain a single annual value for each country.

Has anyone used this GAEZ portal before and has experience in converting raster data into regular country-level panel data?

Thanks in advance for your help.
