  • Validity and Reliability

    Dear Stata Community,
I am doing panel data analysis by using PPML for my Master’s thesis related with international trade issues. I have been asked on validity and reliability (pretest which must be addressed in statistic or business research). My humble request is how I to check/respond on the issue of validity and reliability related matter on analysis using PPML.
    Regards,
    Phelician

If you are analyzing data collected by others, I would begin by checking what they have said about reliability and validity. Many/ most publicly distributed data sets talk about the strengths and weaknesses of the data set, and what they did to assess reliability and validity.

      Thanks Richard for your advice.
To be more specific I am using public distributed secondary data collected from World Bank Doing Business Report and World Economic Forum Global Competitive report as well as CEPII. I will therefore appreciate to get some guidance on this

I have not used those datasets. I would check to see if there is online documentation on them. Or, see if you can find articles that use those data sets. People who provide data usually say something about what the strengths and weaknesses of the data are, For example, this might be helpful:
