  • Forum like stataliest for new R users

    Hello stata community,

I have been a long time stata user but need to get myself familiar with R for working with few advanced method in applied economics , and would benefit my learning curve greatly if I can find a group of helpful people like statalist forum.

If any kind person let me know of a community like this where I can post basic questions ( like one can do on statalist ) for R, that would mean a lot. Thanks in advance !

If you asked the corresponding question about Stata in an R forum the response might be sharp. So, let's be nice.

https://www.r-project.org/mail.html seems to be the official idea documenting R-help.

But I guess far more routine questions on R can now be found on Stack Overflow, for a mix of good and bad reasons.

I imagine many people here use R much more than I do, which is just very occasionally, and no doubt there is plenty more to say.

My sincerest apologies if I ask something inappropriately and that was never my intention. I have been a long time stata user and statalist forum has helped me to a great extent to learn all the econometric method for my understanding. People are here so helpful and I always get a good feedback. Therefore, I thought people here will know better to guide me as always they do. Again, my apologies for asking question in inappropriate way.

I wasn't thinking your question was one you should apologise for. I was puzzled by it because it seems to me that good answers can be found by direct searches outside Statalist, but inappropriate is not what I said or what I thought.

My point was more that some R users are very negative about anything that isn't free. I always remember Martin Weiss, who was very active here a while ago, pointing out the R is free but to make serious use of it it is often necessary to buy many books on R. But I digress.

I do not know about R forums, but I have heard good words about this book, "R for Stata users" which you might find useful in your journey. https://link.springer.com/book/10.10...-1-4419-1318-0
