  • Disable auto-complete in do-file editor

Is it possible to disable the do-file editor's auto-complete feature in Stata 17? If so, how?

Since it's been three hours and no Stata 17 user has replied, let me give a Stata 16.1 answer that may work the same in Stata 17.

I use Stata for Mac, so if you use Windows or Linux, this may not look exactly the same.
    • From the Stata menu select Preferences > General Preferences
    • In the General window that opens, click the Windows icon in the row of icons at the top of the window
    • In the Windows window that opens, click Do-file Editor in the left pane of the window
    • In the right pane, click "Autocompletion" in the list at the top of the right pane
    • Uncheck the box labelled "Autocomplete existing text"

Yes, you can. Open the Do-File Editor, go to the Edit > Preferences and it is in the Autocompletion tab.

Thank you. The procedure for turning off autocompletion in version 16 also works in version 17. I appreciate your help.

For me it seems to re-enable auto-complete every time I start a new Stata session. I don't remember this being the case in earlier versions. Is there a way to make the .do file editor remember preferences?

edit: just opened a new session and it remembered it, unlike every time before, it seemed. I guess it just needed to hear me publicly complain about it, lol.
