  • Difference for Alpha in SPSS vs Stata

Why are there different results for alpha in Stata and SPSS?

Does it mean that Stata has the composite reliability and in SPSS the Cronbach Alpha?
    Or am I wrong?

Can someone please help me out?

Have you coded the missing values correctly in both programs?

I believe that Maarten's suspicion is correct: -alpha- by default calculates alpha with pairwise computation of covariances and correlations, whereas SPSS uses listwise deletion of missing values. To compare the results of Stata with SPSS results you should use the option -casewise- (and of course, use -std- if SPSS calculates alpha based of standardized items).
