  • do file editing - period appears after double space

    Hello Stata Folk

When I enter two spaces in the do file editor (i.e. press the space bar twice) the editor automatically enters a period.

I imagine this is a setting along the lines of when using a word processor where it "helpfully" adds corrections to common typos. This is not helpful in do files though. Can anyone advise me how to turn this setting off? Hopefully this is an easy fix and something that I haven't just found the right keywords when searching the forums.

    Thanks in advance

I cannot replicate that problem. Can you tell us what version of Stata you are using and what operating system?

I can't replicate this on Windows and can't find any documentation on it in the do-file editor helpfile, or in the do-file editor settings. A cursory Google search indicates that this is not specific to Stata, but rather an OS-wide feature on Macs. If I'm right, this site provides a guide on how to disable it:

Ali's suggestion seems to have fixed this issue. It's odd that I was only seeing this in the do file editor and not in other text editors or typing (or perhaps it was something I needed?)

          Thank you all!
