  • Merging ecological zone (8 zones to 5 zone) while working with maps (shapefile)

    Dear seniors,
I am trying to draw a ecological map of Ghana. But the shape file I got from the internet has 8 ecological zones. However the current ecological zones is 5. So I want to merge the 8 ecological zones to 5 ecological zones.
I would like to know if someone can help to merge these 8 ecological zones into 5 ecological zones.

This how I want to merge them
Guinea savanna + sudan savanna = Savannah

    2. Transitional zone + volta lake= Transitional zone

    3. Deciduous forest= Deciduous forest

    4. Wet evergreen + moist evergreen = Tropical rain forest

    5. Coastal Savanna = Coastal savannah

Attached is the map I want to merge

    Thank you

Hate to say this but most people on this forum including me are not going to open any files. Please post a sample of data using dataex command. An you can look up what dataex is in FAQ.
Without seeing the data, you can create a new variable say Zones which has the same name for the zone variable in the file with 5 zones, which would take the string "Savannah" if the existing variable is Guinea savanna or sudan savanna, take the string "Transitional zone" for Transitional zone + volta lake and Tropical rain forest. for Wet evergreen + moist evergreen. At that point you should have 5 ecological zones in both files. Then use merge command to merge them using Zones variable. For details on merge type help merge and press enter.

Hi Isaac Anane do you have the shapefile for the agro-ecological zones of Ghana? If so, can you share with me?
