  • Question regarding the "xtsum" command

    Hello,

I am facing a question regarding the "xtsum command". The xtsum for a panel data gives the mean, std dev, min and max for overall, between and within for a particular regressor. I know that the standard deviation for overall, between and within cannot be negative. However, can the minimum of within be negative? Is that possible when the regressor takes the value of only 0 and 1? I would be thankful for a response.

As reported in -xtsum- entry, Stata .pdf manual (page 535):
The within number refers to the deviation from each individual’s average,

and naturally, some of those deviations must be negative.
    Kind regards,
    Carlo
