  • General question on cumulative incidence and odds ratios

Hello. I am not very conversant with statistics and I have run into something that seems quite odd to me. For my data analysis, I have a cumulative incidence of 0 per 10,000 for disease X in population Y but when I look at the odds ratios for disease X in population Y, they are significantly high. Could this be an error in my code?
Thank you and any explanation is greatly appreciated!

"Cumulative incidence" is an absolute measure of disease occurrence.

"Odds" is an absolute measure of disease occurrence (given by p/(1-p) where p is the probability).

If the cumulative incidence is low then the odds should be low. You referred, however, to the odds ratio.

The "odds ratio" is a relative measure of disease occurrence (i.e., a comparison) between two groups. It is the ratio of the odds in one group divided by the odds in another group. It's highly possible that cumulative incidence is low and the odds ratio is high.
