  • PSA: I need an Econometrics tutor asap $30/hr

Somebody please help me study for a test ( undergrad ). I'm an adult, just went back to school during slow covid times. We can study via Zoom. I'm behind so please have at least a bachelors but hopefully you're close to having a PhD. DMs welcome! Serious only. Need someone right away. The class is called Intro to Econometrics. It's not just Stata, you should know the theory, terminology and be able to understand the formulas easily. Please be a native speaker, my professor has a thick accent and it's even harder to understand.

    Hello 'Johnny',

As it seems you need both help in using the basics of STATA and Introductory Econometric Theory this may not be the place to ask for such help. While it would be appropriate to help you with STATA related questions on Econometrics (most appropriately Applied Econometrics). This may not be the forum to try and ask for help from the theory side of things. While Econometricians do use STATA you will find much more using R probably. Therefore, your hopes of finding someone qualified to tutor you on it may be grim while asking on this forum. Also, many of us are working researchers that simply do not have the time to add tutoring to our agenda. That being said, if you could possibly narrow what you need help on maybe some of us can give you references to good textbooks that explain things well. While everyone is different, I only suspect someone needs a tutor for something when they struggle with something, but that is conditional on the assumption that you have already made an attempt at understanding the core theory and it failed to click with your current teacher.

Let me know what you are struggling with and I can try to throw some good books in your direction that have online available pdfs.

    Cheers,

    Nick

Hi nick, basic Stata is part of the course which is why I assumed this forum was the right place. I've tried asking for help on reddit but the bot took me down. The optional textbook is Introductory Econometrics: A Modern Approach by Jeffrey Wooldridge. The book is 500 pages, it's not realistic for me to dive in with the Final being around the corner. I have no problem understanding the concepts but it's very challenging applying the knowledge and actually solving the test questions. The professor is very heavy on the equations and it turned out I never took the prerequisite stats/math course so keeping up with the notation and the basic terminology has been brutal. I've posted on craigslist, upwork, and fiverr, so fingers crossed I'll find someone to help out. I think if I keep studying around the clock I have a chance.

The Wooldridge text is a very good book for someone with minimal math. I highly recommend trying to read it when possible even if the final is around the corner. Given that your class is an introductory class, I cannot imagine the class goes pass Part 1 of the book in one term. I know this because I have taught with this text in the past.

The problem is that according to the professor and the TAs there's lots of stuff in the Final that's not in the book. Not even sure how that's possible. I heard that book is like the bible for statisticians. It makes no sense but that's what they said. The good news is that a number of people responded to the craigslist ad, so I should be able to find an experienced tutor. Fingers crossed.
