  • Save Workspace Image with Multiple Frames and Linkages

Is there any way to save all the frames currently in memory to a single file, which can then be loaded to recover all tables and linkages (analogous to R's Workspaces--https://www.statmethods.net/interface/workspace.html)? I have a general-purpose dataset I will be using for multiple projects composed of roughly fifteen separate tables with a somewhat complex linkage structure. While it is possible for me to run a script to load all the tables into the necessary frames and establish linkages at the start of every session, this seems like a significant level of hassle; moreover, if I wish to share the dataset with coauthors, it would be much more convenient to send a single file rather than fifteen .dta files, a script, and an instruction manual.

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere; I have found answers neither in the frames documentation nor elsewhere on Statalist.

    • I was looking for the same and didn't find anything. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a step not implemented yet, but coming in the next releases.
    • For the moment saving your script to establish links with the data seems to be the only option. If I am wrong, I would be glad to know of a command that can save the whole setup of frames.
    • For distribution, pack your script with the data in a single zip-archive. That shouldn't be a problem. Stata already has zipfile/unzipfile capabilities.

Ah, that's a shame. Yes, I suppose for now distributing the whole working directory is the best solution. Would also be glad to hear if anyone is aware of a command as described; otherwise I'll consider this resolved. Thank you!
