  • Problem with Stata Mac

Hi! Every time I try to open a log file (.smcl) with my Stata 16 MP, Stata crashes. I use Mac OS Catalina and both Stata and the Mac are updated. Do you know what could be the cause of this problem? Solutions?

    Welcome to Statalist.

I would recommend you raise this issue directly with Stata Technical Services. We Mac users are not that numerous here on Statalist (comparing the number of "" to the number of "/" that I see in file paths!) and for myself, I have yet to upgrade. But I don't think the behavior you see is expected behavior, and I suspect it doesn't happen to everyone. So the odds of finding someone else who has had the problem are not favorable.

One question that a Stata user on Catalina might want to have: how are you trying to open the log file? From Stata's File menu, selecting Log > View? Or something else?

I am using MacOs Catalina 10.15.3. Stata 16. I am trying to import csv. The crash occurs on clicking the browse for file button for me.

Perhaps the discussion linked to below of the same problem in Stata 15 is relevant. If not, I would again recommend contacting Stata Technical Services directly.
