change spanish letters to english

I have a data set that lists Salvadorian towns, the data has been imputed in Spanish so there are Spanish letters that STATA does not know how to read is there a command to translate the words to Spanish

Do you really need to "translate the words" to English? Stata version 14 and onwards are unicode-aware. See help unicode_advice.

In any case, you need to clarify what you mean by Stata "does not know how to read". What happens precisely? What command did you give, and what did you get back -- exactly?
