  • Laptop for running stata

I am in the market for a new laptop that would allow me to run large datasets in Stata. Is an 8th generation (quad-core) i5 processor, 8 GB RAM, and 256 SSD drive enough?

Depends on your definition of large. This sounds minimalist to me. I would probably want more memory and maybe a larger ssd.

Again I would at least want more ram myself.

The processor is likely plenty, but I would second the advice here to have more RAM. With 8 GB, this is often the minimum I would want to operate Windows and some background applications that frequently always run (e.g., email, word processing, instant messaging). You might have just enough RAM for operations on datasets of 2-3 GB in size, but you will very likely get more benefit from 16 GB total RAM.
