  • Marginal Estimate in Binary logistic

Hello, I am writing my masters thesis and I am using SPSS to run binary logistic regression analysis but unfortunately the option for marginal effect is not on SPSS. Please what other statistical packages can I use in order to get marginal effect? Thanks

this is a listserv for the Stata package and yes it can be used for that purpose

      Welcome to Statalist.

Before mentioning Stata's capabilities, let me note that this link has an answer from Bruce Weaver (who frequently contributes here as well) that suggests a technique for obtaining marginal effects on logisitic regression in SPSS.

Stata's margins command can meet your needs, but of course learning Stata (and for that matter purchasing Stata) may be too much of a diversion from your objective of finishing your Master's Thesis.

You may find a helpful explanation of using margins with examples worked in Stata in the nice overview of margins prepared by Richard Williams, a frequent contributor here, at https://www3.nd.edu/~rwilliam/xsoc73994/Margins01.pdf with a more detailed paper in the Stata Journal at http://www.stata-journal.com/article...article=st0260. I'll also note that Margins01.pdf is followed by Margins02.pdf ... Margins05.pdf covering more specialized topics.

And all five of these PDFs, and plenty more of use to someone learning about the analysis of categorical data, are linked to from https://www3.nd.edu/~rwilliam/xsoc73994/index.html - the material mentioned above is found in the section headed Interpreting results: Adjusted Predictions and Marginal effects.

Another option in SPSS (that I did not mention in the RG post William linked to in #3) is to use the GENLIN command to estimate your model. It has an EMMEANS sub-command that corresponds (more or less) to -margins- in Stata. There is also a COMPARE option that can be used to get all pairwise comparisons for factor variables, if that is what you are trying to do. Here are a couple of links you may find helpful.
