  • generating dummy variables

    Dear all,

    I have the following data coming from a lab experiment from multiple sessions. Under each session I have 6 treatments and under each treatment subjects play for 30 periods. I have 10 subjects for each session. From the data I am trying to create a dummy variable. The dummy should take a value 0 if n2=n3, and take a value 1 if n2!=n3 for all the subsequent periods. For example for each treatment, if the inequality occurs at period 18, the dummy should take a value 1 from period 18 onward. If the inequality occurs at multiple periods, say for example, at periods 5, 13 and 19, the dummy should take a value 1 starting from period 5. Below is a snippet of the data. I would appreciate any help with creating the dummy variable.

    Thanks for the data example, but I am struggling with this.

    0. It's I guess tacit that you want calculations done separately by subject and treatment.

    1. You give us some variables that don't appear relevant to the question.

    2. I can't see a complete example of all 30 periods for any (subject, treatment) pair.

    Otherwise my guess is that something like this may help.

    as you want an indicator for whether inequality has been observed so far.

      Thanks for getting back so quickly. You are right, I was not clear and also, provided confusing variables that were not needed. Here is another try at it:

      This time I am posting a snippet from two treatments from only one session(eventually I will have 12 sessions and 6 treatments), with all 30 periods and 10 subjects. So a total of 2*30*10=600 observations. For this exercise, my analysis is at the period level. So I am comparing n2 and n3 at each period for each treatment. What I need is a dummy that equals 0 if n2=n3 and equals 1 if n2!=n3 for each subsequent period.
