  • Meaning and interpretation of the Test

    Hello

At the moment I'm reading a paper and came across this table, which I unfortunately don't quite understand concerning a line (the one circled red) p(Asylum=A8). For understanding, A8 stands for the EU8 migrants. In this table you see a panel regression and this p(Asylum=A8) also occurs in another table the fixed-effect regressions.
What kind of test is this? What is such a test for? How do you interpret such a test?

Thank you very much for your help.

My gut-feeling is that Authors (please, provide full reference of the contribution you quote. As per FAQ, what sounds familiar to you, looks indeed obscure for those, like me, who come from different research filelds. Thanks) test if the coefficient Asylum is different for all the EU8 countries included in the analysis (the null being it is not).
    Kind regards,

      Dear Mr. Lazzaro

      I'm sorry I forgot.
The paper is by: Brian Bell, Francesco Fasani and Stephen Machin ( 2013): Crime and Immigration: Evidence from large Immigrant Waves.

I think, Mr Lazzaro, that your assumption may be correct. But do you know why or what the point of such a test is?

Unfortunately, I have no rough idea about that.
Maybe some explanation creeps up in the method section of the paper I have no access to.
As an aside, please call me Carlo, like all on (and many more off) this list do. Thanks,
        Kind regards,
        Carlo
