  • Number of Panels

    Hi,

I am struggling to find this answer online. Is there any benefit from adding extra panels to fixed effects models? I am comparing my results that cover 20 quarters with results that cover 11 quarters. Thank You

I don't understand what you are asking. If the difference between the two sets of results is 20 quarters vs 11 quarters, you have not added extra panels.

So try to be clearer about what you have done. Are the analyses carried out among the same panels, just for different time durations? Or are the sets of panels distinct, or overlapping? Is time accounted for in the modeling? If so, how?

Sorry Clyde, I thought 'panels' meant extra time periods. The same panels for different time durations, using a fixed effects model with year dummies. Is there any benefit to observing the local authorities for more periods?

        Darcy:
the only benefit I see is a higher precision in the estimate of time-varying predictors.
        Kind regards,
