Standardised rates for hospitalization in case of multiple admissions

I am new here and have just a general question.

Is there a method for calcultation standardized rate of hospital admissions in case patients can have several admissions

I am looking for a method that take care of the violation of assumption that require events to be independent to each other in poisson distribution

I appreciate any suggestion
