Quite generally, you may start by typing - help merge - in the command window. Then, please take a look at the examples. The codes, specifically, are related to each specific case.

The other source of documentation is the pdf manuals provided. Look under Help, then PDF Documentation. The User Guide is essential if you're beginning. Also, at the bottom of the documentation list is a index tab which will let you look at a subject index. The PDF documentation has more material (including examples) than the documentation brought up by help merge or help whatever from the command line.
