  • Omit range of values on the x-axis in a histogram

    Hi,
I'm trying to plot a histogram of a variable for Spanish data. Since Spain was a dictatorship between 1939 to 1975, I'd like to omit these years but still keep observations between 1900 and 1938, and well as those between 1976 until 2016. Do you know if it is possible to do that in a histogram?
    Thank you
    Best,

    Teresa

In histograms, the axis represents bins of values, not years or any other assigned variable. Do you mean a bar graph? If so, yes, you can omit years. The following FAQ shows several approaches to showing a scale break. You can also add a text symbol like , which looks OK if it is perpendicular to the axis, but positioning it can be tricky.
